THE MAN BEHIND JAK BUILDERS
I grew up watching my father work. He was a general contractor in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. As a boy I would accompany my father to home construction sites. I can honestly say I started on the job training at ten years old.
By seventeen years old I was running jobs on my own. I was estimating jobs, pulling permits, swinging a hammer, leading crews, and communicating with the homeowners. I worked under and with my father for 20 years.
I learned the various trades, business principles, contractors’ laws, construction codes, and practical problem solving techniques associated with home construction. And, probably most importantly, I learned how to communicate with and make the customer happy.
In 1999, after 20 years of watching, listening, learning and building I applied my knowledge and experience and started JAK BUILDERS general contractor in San Diego. JAK BUILDERS is owned and operated by me and my wife, Andi Kitts, who is a San Diego attorney.
Since 1999 we have been providing our services to homeowners as well as to other general contractors, hence our slogan “We’re the Pros the Pros Use.”
Just as I became involved with my father’s construction company at a young age, our six year old daughter is taking an active role in JAK BUILDERS. Loving stickers, she personally places stamps on the post cards we send out. She tells all her friends she has a real job and she even has her own business cards, pink of course. She is JAK BUILDERS’ Junior Marketing Assistant!
I put off creating a website for a long time because it seemed so impersonal. Like I said, I grew up watching my father. He would meet potential clients, like you, face to face. This is when my father would have introduced himself and his company to you. Funny thing is, he would not have told you he could make your dreams come true or claim to be the builder of your dreams, or promise to turn your house into a home.
I cringe when I read those claims. If a contractor told my wife he would turn her house into a home I would take a few steps back and watch her eyes widen as she would say, “Are you saying my house isn’t already a home?!”
Anybody who knows me will tell you I am self confident and I know I can build just about anything you can envision, but I could never give myself credit for turning your house into a home. You, your family and your personal items are what make your house a home.
I cannot imagine saying such things to you in person so why would it be okay to say them on a website? I can tell you here that I am trustworthy, direct, full of integrity, funny, and a great problem solver, but would you really just take my word for it? I would rather you discover this about me during conversation and personal interaction.
Of course times have changed and I see that websites do offer a certain convenience for homeowners like you who are looking to hire a San Diego contractor. So I finally decided to introduce myself, Josh Kitts the man behind JAK BUILDERS, via the World Wide Web. But… I still want to introduce myself in person.
